Let's talk about writing

By Marion Drazil of Smart Business Online

Let’s talk about writing and comments!

Why do we write articles? For many of us it is a means of communications, to be part of something, to be heard or because we have become isolated for whatever reason. Many of us feel we have something to contribute either through information, for inspiration, or something so important to us that we want to make everyone aware of it, therefore we write and put our writings online for all to read and make comment to.

What is your writing about?
Let’s take a look at what’s behind the writing, I don’t mean the topic but the underlying reasons and feelings for writing about that topic. What message are you giving out; it may not necessarily be what is written. Is it a caring for the welfare of your readers, or promotion of your business or an injustice you have witnessed? Whatever, the reasons behind your writing like many of us, you have the freedom to say your piece and publish it on blogs, article directories or sites like Qondio. However, by publishing your article you also leave yourself open to criticism good or bad, positive or negative.

Why comments count!
If you express your opinion you leave yourself wide open to all comments. The fact that there has been a response at all means there has been some impact... what impact you may never know unless a true comment reflecting an opinion is made, however, this much you do know your writings have been read!

Dealing with Comments!
How do you deal with comments if they don’t all sound like those so often seen on other social media sites? Comments like...’great’, ‘good work’, ‘know what you mean’, ‘I’m with you on this one’ and too many other superficial comments to mention here. Very seldom do these reflect the true feelings behind the comment. Sure it may make you (if you have made this type of comment) appear as a nice person (which you probably are) and you will be rewarded by positive and non-committal comments for your articles. However, do these comments really mean any more than someone has read your article? If you want people to simply read your article, pat you on the back or not bother to respond you are on the right track.

Making Comments!
Whenever, you write a comment on any topic published on the Internet there are a number of things to remember. The most important of all is that you never attack a person’s character regardless of how passionate you feel about the topic. The author of the article is entitled to his/her opinion just as you are with yours that is called ‘FREEDOM OF SPEECH’, however, this does not mean that you necessarily agree or see merit in the content of the article. Make your comments relevant to the topic, have your say honestly and openly but without a direct attack on the author’s personality, ability for writing or credibility.

And finally, never stop writing or commenting, our collective opinions make the world go round and without that we have nothing. So I leave this article open to comment, good or bad, positive or negative, however, keep in mind this is my opinion and I believe in it wholeheartedly and completely and will continue to make comment wherever I can, and if it is not welcome I will simply move on to where my opinion is more readily accepted because that is the person I am.

Thank you for sharing this information, Marion.
I find that many of the comments that people make on an article, tend to add to the benefit of the article. One of the problems, is that some members don't follow enough other members and don't realize that an article has been published. Following and being followed, leads to a great exchange of ideas and information.
Keep up the good work.
Best wishes.
Frederick

CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY

My pleasure Frederick. Just imagine how much wonderful information is missed out on by those who do not read or follow authors of these intels. Often there is valuable information in intels and articles that many people would pay a so called "expert" a small fortune for....and best of all it is absolutely free.

Thank you Marion for this very good advice. I enjoy reading as much as writing and I do appreciate your encouragement to respond in agreement or otherwise, not an attack but honest and tactful.
NOW, I'll say it .... well done! ;)
